— (Reuters) According to the Financial Times, Germany’s Finance Minister Christian Lindner is rejecting Intel’s (INTC.O) request for further subsidies for a chip factory worth $18 billion (€17 billion), claiming that the nation cannot afford it.
According to Lindner, “there is no more money available in the budget,” according to a newspaper interview. “Right now, we’re trying to consolidate the budget rather than increase it.”
Government funding of 6.8 billion euros was expected to be provided to the business for its German manufacturing facility. However, the publication stated that it is now asking for approximately 10 billion euros owing to rising energy and construction expenses.
When Reuters contacted Intel for comment after business hours, they did not answer right away.
