Pakistan and New Zealand are tied on one point after rain canceled their T20 World Cup 2026 Super Eight match in Colombo.
COLOMBO (Tech News) – Persistent rain prompted the cancellation of Pakistan’s Super Eight match against New Zealand in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 on Saturday, with not a single ball bowled at R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo.
Officials confirmed the decision after extensive monitoring of circumstances, with the outfield being too wet to allow for play. Due to the washout, both sides received one point apiece in the important second-stage match.
The much-anticipated match was canceled as strong rains began around the throw and did not stop. Ground crew maintained the coverings firmly in place throughout the game, and authorities finally called it off owing to unplayable circumstances.
Earlier, Pakistan won the toss and chose to bat first in their first Super Eight match. Captain Salman Ali Agha had stated that the goal was to score a high total and defend it against New Zealand, but the weather intervened before play could begin.
The abandonment means that both teams will share the rewards, which might be crucial in the tightly contested Super Eight rankings.
With one point added to their account, Pakistan now turns their attention to forthcoming matches against England and Sri Lanka in an attempt to keep their semi-final aspirations alive. New Zealand will also reconsider their effort after the rain-soaked stalemate in Colombo.
