A big project to create a 16,000 km long fibre optic cable in Pakistan has commenced to expedite the digitalization and networking process.
This was said by Tony Lee, Chief Executive Officer of Sunwalk Pvt Limited, during the Kick-Off Ceremony in Islamabad. Sunwalk is focusing on quick deployment while retaining quality in compliance with ITU-T standards, according to him. “We are always committed to providing the best services in Pakistan,” he said.
Sunwalk Group Chairman Hou Xing Wang told Federal Minister for IT and Telecom Syed Amin ul Haque in a meeting around two months ago that the Group will soon begin constructing fibre cable throughout the country with a substantial investment.
According to an official announcement on the project, Afshaan Malik, Chief Business Officer of Sunwalk Group Pakistan, remarked that despite the country’s present economic circumstances, Sunwalk has fulfilled its commitment by launching the national fibre backbone project.
In this respect, the groundbreaking for Phase 1 (Islamabad to Multan) of a statewide fibre backbone was completed on Thursday, and we are now publicly releasing this wonderful news for the people of Pakistan after the completion of project-related formalities, she added.
Malik further said that Sunwalk is in the process of securing right of way (ROW) from government agencies in order to begin building as soon as possible since we want to invest $100 million after receiving the ROW.
