After being introduced by lawmakers from the Socialist Party and President Emmanuel Macron’s Renaissance faction, the French lower house National Assembly granted its approval to the bill, which has broad cross-party support – quite rare in France’s current hostile political atmosphere.
The Senate, which is dominated by the right, granted its approval in a vote.
Consumer safeguards
“The law of the jungle has ended,” said Arthur Delaporte of the Socialist Party, who co-sponsored the measure with Renaissance’s Stephane Vojetta, who said the document will “protect consumers, especially the youngest.”
Many influencers have a small following, but certain celebrities with millions of followers can affect consumer behaviour, particularly among young people.
