Britain will host the world’s first artificial intelligence conference later this year in an attempt to negotiate a common strategy among governments to minimise the technology’s potential apocalyptic threats while embracing its promise, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced on Wednesday.

“AI has the ability to significantly improve human lives. But we must ensure that technology is produced and deployed in a safe and secure manner,” Sunak said in Washington, ahead of White House discussions with US Vice President Joe Biden on Thursday.
