(AFP) Paris – At VivaTech, one of Europe’s largest technology trade exhibitions, in Paris on Wednesday, President Emmanuel Macron said that France should become a leader in artificial intelligence (AI).

He complimented initiatives aimed at French speakers and pledged 500 million euros ($543 million) in fresh financing to “create champions” in AI, as worries about Silicon Valley companies promoting English-language dominance of AI systems mount.

Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla and Twitter, will be speaking at VivaTech on Friday. He is likely to discuss Neuralink, which just received US permission for human testing of a device that utilises implants to connect brains with computers.
