A rocket engine blew up during a test in Japan on Friday, but no one was hurt, according to a ministry of education, science, and technology official.
The Epsilon S engine explosion at the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) testing facility is the most recent in a string of mishaps that have dampened Japan’s aspirations in the space race.
According to the official, the explosion happened around a minute into the second stage engine test.
A testing facility was seen on television footage to have flames coming out of the side before the small structure caught fire and the roof collapsed.
