Reuters (Reuters) – Major U.S. restaurant chains such as Starbucks, Domino’s (DPZ.N), and Chipotle (CMG.N) are pushing new technologies to automate manufacturing, slash labor costs, and perhaps raise profit margins.

Starbucks announced plans to install the Siren System, a coffee-making equipment, in 10% of its locations beginning next year. Starbucks promises that baristas who use the machine will be able to make drinks in less time and with fewer steps, such as a grande mocha frappucinno in 36 seconds rather than 87 seconds.
