Chicago, Ill. Sen. David Koehler of Peoria, who sponsored legislation that was approved and will take effect on July 1, 2024, claims that Illinois is the first state in the union to assure that young social media influencers be paid for their work.
Following the signing of the measure on Friday afternoon, Koehler issued a press statement through email. “The rise of social media has given children new opportunities to earn a profit,” she wrote. Many parents have seized this chance to enrich themselves while forcing their kids to work in these digital surroundings.
