On Saturday, the Punjab government announced the immediate reinstatement of thousands of District Teacher Educators (DTEs) following an eight-year absence. The Secretary of Schools Education has also given orders for their restoration. Currently, 4,560 DTEs serve as instructors across Punjab, with 113 in Lahore.
In 2017, the Punjab government ended the DTE program and sent them to other schools as ordinary instructors. With their reinstatement, the DTEs will continue training teachers around the province.
In a related event, the Punjab government has abolished the prohibition on teacher transfers in June 2024. According to sources, instructors must have a seniority number to petition for transfers, and those without one are unable to submit online applications.

Female teachers, in particular, have expressed worry about having to attend offices to receive their seniority numbers, and have urged that this need be removed. Furthermore, in order to be eligible for a transfer, instructors must have at least three years of service at their current institution; those with less tenure will not be considered.
